Pricing, session deatils, and general information
These days, everyone has a “good camera” in their pocket, why should you hire a professional? I could offer about six hundred solid reasons, but I'll leave it at this: a smart camera does not make a smart photographer. And proper lighting (which I create with high-power flashes, softboxes, etc.) makes all the difference in the world.
So let the phone do what it does best (texting hilarious GIFs to friends and ruining our necks?) and choose a professional you trust to capture your session with the skills, services, and products that fit your needs. I have photographed high school seniors since 2007, and continue to push myself creatively in order to provide each and every client with a unique set of images that represents their individual sense of style, interests, and personality.
The Session
Your session fee covers the time that we shoot, basic editing of the final images, and online gallery of edited images. Travel fees may apply for sessions taking place more than 30 minutes from Blue Springs, MO.

Digital Images
All digital images include printing rights up to 8x12 in size. Use Nations Photo Lab or MPix for great results!
I offer portrait sessions Monday through Thursday, typically scheduling in the evening so we can wrap the session at sunset. To officially book your selected day and time, a $50 retainer and a signed contract are required. Locations must be within a 30-minute drive of Blue Springs, or a small travel fee may be included in your session fee. Check my location guide for suggestions on my favorite places for sessions.
Your edited images will be color-corrected with exposure and contrast adjustments for a natural, clean look in each of your photos.
Additional enhancements, such as blemish removal, background removal, or other requested edits, are offered as well (additional fee applies).
Within a few business days, I will finish editing the images from your session (typically 75-100 final images with standard sessions). You will receive a link to a private online gallery (available for 30 days) to view and order your images.

Consider the setting of where your session will take place. Will it be downtown, a park, your favorite local venue, or somewhere else? Imagine your setting and the types of colors that will be there. Since the setting is background of your photos, it has a big impact on your overall look. For example, if you plan to have the shoot at a garden, wearing floral prints or green tones might not be the best idea because you would blend in to the background. Ideally, you want to match the style of the background, while wearing colors that set you apart from it.
Colors - I find that blues, purples, and pastels go well with natural scenes. Bold colors and traditional tones (black, white, and gray) match modern locations like the city. Just steer clear of any reds, yellows, tans that may be too close to your skin tone.
Solids and Prints - Don’t be afraid to incorporate some stripes or other patterns into your clothing. Adding coordinating solid colors will help complete the look. I recommend avoiding clothing with screen printed designs or wording, as they can be distracting.
Layering and Accessories - Consider layering your outfits with easy additions such as ties, scarves, jackets, cardigans, etc.
If you wear makeup, apply it as you normally would, and bring it along if you may need to reapply. Be sure that any foundation is blended evenly and looks natural. You may also consider hiring a makeup artist (I have several I can recommend) for your session. Please avoid using shimmery or glow enhancing blush or powder. Matte powder and foundation photographs much better.
My high-resolution camera sees everything! Be sure your hair - beards, sideburns, nose hair, eyebrows, all of it - is tamed to your liking. A fresh haircut is recommended as well.
If you tend to have oily skin, powder or oil-absorbing wipes are recommended.
Remove orthodontic retainers - even the clear plastic ones!
Visiting the tanning booth or using self-tanning lotion before pictures is not recommended.
For outdoor photos, I prefer to shoot in a shaded area. The time of day that we schedule the session is very important - early morning or late evening may be best time depending on the location.
Please avoid Transitions lenses for outdoor portraits.
